Manning Hill Roadside Park, situated in Green Township, is a county-owned treasure. In 2014, a collaborative effort between the Green Township Planning Commission, the Green Township Board, and the Alpena County Parks Commission aimed to restore Manning Hill Park, transforming it into a clean and inviting roadside park once again.

The park saw significant clean-up efforts, and sidewalks were installed to ensure accessibility for individuals using wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Recently, a road was paved leading up to the pavilion, further enhancing accessibility for the disabled and providing a convenient area to load and unload picnic supplies.

The pavilion features four cement picnic tables and three charcoal grills, making it a perfect spot for gatherings. Inside the lighted tower, benches are available for visitors to sit and enjoy the scenic countryside views. Additionally, at the top of the ramp/stairway, a wooden structure provides an excellent vantage point.

This remarkable transformation was made possible through the generous contributions of funds, donations, and labor from various individuals and organizations. Here’s a partial list of those who participated:

  • Green Township Planning Commission members
  • Green Township Board members
  • Alpena County Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Alpena County Maintenance Department
  • Green Township residents and neighbors
  • Youth and Recreation Committee funding
  • Bedrock Contracting and Excavating
  • Alpena Exchange Club
  • Manning Family
  • Dan Manning
  • Don Nevins
  • Presque Isle Electric Community First Funds
  • Home Depot
  • Netta’s Nursery
  • Prime Results Paving/Sealcoating

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those who showed their love and support for this project, ensuring that the Alpena Area and travelers feel welcome. Manning Hill Roadside Park, adjoining private property often used for sledding in the winter, stands as a testament to the community’s dedication and generosity.
